1 Preparation & Patience / Acts 1:4-5

2 Christ’s Preparations
Act 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

3 Christ’s Preparations…
4 And, being assembled together with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

4 Jhn 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you

5 Our Patience …but wait for the promise of the Father…
…we are awful at waiting.

6 Psa 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.
Psa 145:15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Psa 33:20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he [is] our help and our shield.

7 Pro 27:18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured. Jas 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Heb 12: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

8 Key Point # 1 God’s very best for us will always require waiting with obedience & patience

9 When God Works…it’s never an accident.
Right place – Jerusalem ( a matter of obedience) 2) Right time – God chose the day of Pentecost. (a matter of patience)

10 Key Point # 2 Experiencing the power of God is not a recipe and it can’t be conjured

11 A bit about baptism. 4 And, being assembled together with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

12 John’s Message/Baptism
A bit about baptism. John’s Message/Baptism Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Luke 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

13 The Apostle’s Message/Baptism
A bit about baptism. The Apostle’s Message/Baptism Luke 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

14 A bit about baptism. John’s message was “repent and be baptized to prepare for the coming Messiah” it was a physical baptism centered on prophecy. The Apostles message was “repent, for the Messiah has come” it was a spiritual baptism centered on the gospel .

15 A bit about baptism. John the Baptist says, I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire: (Mat 3:11 ) And what Pauls says, For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Gal 3:27 )

16 Key Point # 3 Salvation itself is a baptism, a baptism of the Spirit into Christ
