1. Gary Michael Dault
A Toronto writer, artist and art critic. He has taught at a number of Canadian universities and has written for many newspapers and magazines including Azure, Canadian Art, Toronto Life, Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail. He currently writes the "Gallery Going" column every Saturday for the Globe and Mail.

2. Cereal Box Series
His show of paintings at Gallery Page and Strange in Halifax is titled “An Hour’s Worth of Landscape Painting: Sixty 1-Minute Paintings on Cereal Boxes.”
The support for the paintings is cereal-box card stock.
The landscapes echo the Group of Seven’s works and use of bookbinding card stock.
Bits of ground show through the paintings enhancing the surface and colour.

3. It is not just that remnants of the cereal box show through; the design on the box also determines the composition.
Similar to The Group of Seven landscapes, Dault paints luscious landscapes; a pile of Cheerios forms a hill, a blueberry becomes a moon and milk in a bowl is now water.
Dault limited himself to one minute to complete each painting.

4. He followed the American Ashcan School painter Robert Henri’s motto (saying): “Do it all in one sitting if you can. In one minute if you can.”
Dault did an entire show in an hour.
Someone asked Dault how paintings completed in just one minute could have any substance (importance). His reply: “It took me 30 years to learn to paint them.”
What does Dault mean by this reply?
