James Swanson was born on February 12, 1959, the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.
On his 10th birthday, his grandmother gave him an engraving of the Deringer pistol John Wilkes Booth used to assassinate Abraham Lincoln, framed by a newspaper article published on the day of his assassination.
He became fascinated with learning more about the story.
He is now a member of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
