2 METROPOLIS Festival is unique to Edmonton and is based on the history and technological developments of cold weather construction in a winter city. Draws on the imagination of Edmonton artists, architects, the international design community and the citizens of the Capital Region. The festival is green and sustainable.

3 Children’s Zone

4 METROPOLIS 2012 Will consist of up to 9 structures.
Constructed from Aluma Systems scaffolding covered in white shrink wrap. Enclosed in plywood and heated with glycol radiant heating system. METROPOLIS 2012 Ground floor program space will have an entrance and exit. Offers a sheltered atmosphere suitable for winter conditions in the Edmonton Capital Region. The festival will be green, sustainable and the majority of materials will be rented.

5 Concept and Design Utilize cold weather construction technology.
Each structure will include a light, sound show and program space. The Demonstration Project will include heat, lights and entertainment. Inaugural year will feature structures designed by architects selected by Events Edmonton. This process will assist in the development of design guidelines for a international design competition. The Children’s Zone will be the mascot of the Festival.

Production Schedule Hire Project Manager. Finalize structure sizes and site plan. Finalize structure designs. Structure engineering. Secure all funds and complete grant applications. Setup of 102 A Avenue Mascot Structure. METROPOLIS official opening at 7 pm on 31 December 2011. January 2012 February March Event ends 20 February 2012. Complete tear down and clean-up of Sir Winston Churchill Square. Wrap-up meetings with all stakeholders. Final wrap-up report for the Events Edmonton Board. Begin planning process for 2013 METROPOLIS.
