What is Photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is how plants (and some bacteria) use the energy of the sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and high-energy carbohydrates. It is the process of CREATING a usable energy source from sunlight that other organisms may consume.

Photosynthesis is vital to life for two reasons: 1. The oxygen in the air comes from photosynthesis. The plants continue to replenish the oxygen in the air. 2. All of our food comes directly or indirectly from photosynthesis.

How Can Plants Do It? Plants have pigments that allow them to take in certain wavelengths. *found in chloroplasts Chloroplasts hold chlorophyll, a pigment that takes in light that can be turned into energy. There is one color of light that plants do not take in very well: green.
