Electric Motorized Bicycle Requirements
-Electric Motorized Bicycles- defined as having “fully operative pedals for propulsion by human power and an electric motor that produces less than a 1000 watt output, are incapable of a speed greater than 20 mph on level ground, and are incapable of further increasing speed beyond 20 mph using human power in conjunction with the electric motor.” Electric Motorized Bicycle Requirements Quick Facts about Electric Motorized Bicycles: Electric Motorized Bicycles aren’t motor vehicles (no license, registration, or insurance required) Rider Required to be at least 16 years old Bicycle helmet meeting DMV safety guidelines required Head lamp, tail lamp, stop lamp, Side and rear reflectors Adequate Brakes Mirror Horn Muffler NO modifications to increase speed NO riding on vehicular crossings On the roadway regardless of what you’re riding, safety is the number ONE priority. Please respect others, and abide by all traffic laws. If you haven’t done so already, we highly recommend you register your bicycle, electric or not, with our bicycle registration program.
