The war effort helped the U.S. economy become the strongest industrial power in the world.

2 Women’s work helped build support for woman suffrage (vote).

3 After WWI, many people wanted things to return to “normal” after the many sacrifices and changes of the time.

4 Women and African Americans were hired in all industries.

5 Attacks were made on German immigrants and any citizen who opposed the war.

6 Large corporations made huge profits
Large corporations made huge profits. Labor unions grew and strikes were common.

7 Women worked in industry, mining, and construction jobs previously done by men. They also worked as nurses, teachers, and clerks.

8 The government worked to gain support for war through speeches, pamphlets, posters, etc.

9 African Americans moved from the South to Northern cities in the Great Migration in search of jobs.

10 Wages rose in industry, but food and housing costs also rose quickly.
