TNK-115 Using the Internet of Things for secure Urban solutions in a Smart CitY VANGELIS ANGELAKIS ITN - Linköping University
2
Course Aim TNK115 aims to present a diverse set of topics covering key technological enablers alongside with social aspects of smart cities having in mind the direct application for the benefit of the citizen.
3
Learning Goals Broader implications of the technological requirements of infusing intelligence in the urban environment Identifying resource requirements for smart city solutions ranging from small-scale indoor to city-scale outdoor applications Basic functional and networking aspects of sensors and their role within the concept of the “Internet of Things”
4
Learning Goals Handling large amounts of diverse data, focusing on gathering and manipulation, meeting anonymity, privacy and security constraints Overall scalability issues of solutions in terms of computational and networking resource management Through programming (Android-based) mobile devices building up basic components of applications in a smart city context, focusing on solutions for e.g. smart transportation
5
Course Requirements Java programming Android apps Networking
6
On costs and benefits 6 ECTS = load of ~ 150h [ 2 ECTS ] 4 x lab assignments [ 2 ECTS ] Project [ 2 ECTS ] Exam (duga) on the lecture/seminar material
7
Lab Assignments Assignments handed out in advance of the Lab session (this week all on the course page) Their topics/content does not necessarily follow the lectures’ content So labs are independent of the lectures Lab #0 for backup Lab time: for questions explanations and hands on if necessary not obligatory to be there IF everything works fine for your team (usually though you need to be there…) Lab evaluation: report submitted on deadline of assignment
8
Lab teams & mobiles Hosted at the TP4003 room
Lab has some SONY E2303 XPERIA M4s Each team of 2 students can* be assigned one phone *last year many teams did not want to use it… at their own risk
9
Lab Assignments Lab #0 Android intro – Hello world. - not obligatory Lab #1: Create a data collecting app Lab #2: Localization and applications of geofencing Lab #3: Visualization of collected position data
10
Projects Teams of up to 3 people
2 ECTS x 3 People a significant work effort App design – involving knowledge acquired in the lectures and labs A small set of predefined topics (details out v. 5) System design and expected results report : 13 Mar. Deadline for report delivery: In the exam period (TBA)
11
Lectures The material from the lectures (slides, papers, links) will come in the written examination. All material will become available …as we go note: the Springer book where you got the A. Bassi chapter is available from the library and also… here
