Brief history Basic description
The first known mention of diabetes symptoms was in 1552 B.C. Diabetes is a disease that affects how the body uses glucose, a sugar that is the body’s main source of fuel.

Can you get diabetes? Diabetes is most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 45 and 64 but can be diagnosed to someone of any age. There is no specific gender in which diabetes occurs only, although males have a higher risk than females. If your mother, father, brother, or sister has heart disease or diabetes your risk goes up.

Common symptoms of diabetes
Urinating often Feeling very thirsty Feeling very hungry- even though you are eating Extreme fatigue Blurry vision cuts/bruises that are slow to heal Weight loss even though you are eating more Tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands or feet

Affects on the body Diabetes may affect major organs in your body including your eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels, gums, and feet Affects various organs of the body including tissues and cells which could keep immune system intact for collaberative attempt to keep different antigens away from infecting it.

What’s the cause? Family history
Conditions in the pancreas that result in reduced insulin production Overweight Obesity, especially central obesity Physical inactivity Increased levels of blood cholesterol High blood pressure Aging Low testosterone levels in men Ethnic background Hormonal disturbances and certain medications can also lead to increase blood glucose levels

Cures or treatments Diabetes cannot be cured but there are many treatments doctors use to control it Treatments may include- Taking insulin as prescribed Eat a healthy, balanced diet with accurate carbohydrate counts Check blood sugar levels as prescribed Get regular physical activity

How can you prevent diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented where as doctors cant even tell who will have it and who won’t Type 2 diabetes can be prevented because it is caused by being overweight Ways you can prevent Type 2 diabetes- Eat foods that are good for you Limit fast foods and sugary sodas Stay active

Affect on daily life Aspects of life with diabetes that may affect your quality of life include: The never ending demands of diabetes care – eating carefully, exercising, monitoring blood glucose, and scheduling and planning Symptoms of low or very high blood glucose Fears about or the reality of complications
