Mechanic's hands is a physical exam finding which refers to the hyperkeratosis, scaling and fissuring that occurs on the digital pulps and lateral aspects of the fingers. In patients with myositis, mechanic's hands are found much more commonly in those with antisynthetase antibodies and interstitial lung disease.4
