Soil Mechanics Assignments
The following assignments must be completed as a group work. The handed in work should be compiled into a PDF-file, named according to template: TCU-2018S-6-Gxx.pdf, where xx is group no. Example: for group 7 it will be TCU-2018S-6-07.pdf File must be uploaded to the hand-in folder under soil mechanics assignment. Deadline for hand-in is Friday the 16th of march 2018, 18:00 The Soil Mechanics hand-in will be graded separately. TCU/VIA 6th semester workshop Assignments

Soil Mechanics Assignments
1. Determine the type of loam from the soil texture triangle, provided the ratios sand(10%), silt(50%) and clay(40%) 2. Using Darcy’s law, determine the flow in m3/s, provided flow area Af= 0.5m2 , flow length L=10m, hydraulic head drop=3m and hydraulic conductivity = 5E-2 3. Determine the type of soil for hydraulic conductivity = 1E-9 4. Determine the hydraulic conductivity for sand with diameter D=1mm Determine the load bearing capacity from the bore no. 2, slide 22 at a depth of 3 m below terrain. (Note the type of soil) TCU/VIA 6th semester workshop Assignments

Soil Mechanics Assignments Field investigation report:
Find a spot to excavate a sample of soil (maybe on campus). Record the location (coordinates by smartphone) Take pictures to document process. Bring the sample and heat it up to dry out the water as much as possible. Perhaps spread out the soil on a paper and place it near a radiator. Perform the internal angle of friction test. Add water to the sample and perform the soil texture test. Write a small report of the procedure and document by photos. TCU/VIA 6th semester workshop Assignments
