Board Game Project

Introduction Your group will create a board game based on a Far Eastern Empire (Qing China, Ming China, Tokugawa Japan) or Gunpowder Empire (Russian, Ottoman, Safavid, or Mughal).

Task You are game creators for a large toy company. The Asian Empires played a significant role in world history. You want to create a game to help educate tweens, teens, and adults on them. You gather a group of your best game scientists and decide the game will include a: • Board • Playing pieces • Question cards • Pictures

Step 1 (Day 1 and 2) Your group will need to research your Empire. Each person in the group will be responsible for some aspect of the Empire. The group will break up the research to include: • Religion • Society • General Facts • Politics • Economy • Military Affairs • Achievements • Each person in the group will share their findings with everyone else in the group. You must fill in the CHART for your notes!

Step 2 (Day 2 and 3, maybe a little of day 4)
Your group will then create a board game based on your research. Your game must appeal to tweens, teens and adults. It must be creative, colorful and fun to play. You must also provide a set of directions.

Step 3 (Day 4) Groups will give a presentation on their research to their classmates. Classmates are expected to fill in the FULL CHART given to them. This is an important step; without this information, you will not be able to play your classmates’ games.

Step 4 (Day 5) Play the games!

Three Options Do this project with a group of 2-5 people
Do this project solo with the same expectations of a group Write a five page TYPED paper about the same information that will be due on Monday, October 22 (the day we play the games)

Grading You and your group will be judged on the quality of your research and the creativity of your game. It is completely okay to take ideas from popular games like Monopoly or Life, but you can’t just copy it. If your group wants to change it up and do a card game or some other idea, you must run it by the teacher first. This is a project grade/summative grade, AKA counts the same as a test. Here’s a chance to get points back.
