1 mod_threesixo: A simple 360° feedback activity module
Jun Pataleta Analyst Developer / Integrator #mootau18 Good afternoon, everyone. I’m Jun Pataleta from Moodle HQ. Today I’d like to present my Moodle plugin called mod_threesixo, which is a 360 degree feedback activity module for Moodle.

2 What is a 360 degree feedback?
A tool for reviewing the performance of a subject based on feedback given by multiple persons Can help discover strengths, and weaknesses, as well Can help map personal development goals Who among you have heard about, or even participated in a 360 degree feedback? I think at one point or another, most of us might have experienced this, especially in our workplace. To those who have not yet heard about it, a 360 degree feedback is a tool for reviewing the performance of a subject based on the feedback given by multiple persons. If you are a recipient of a 360 degree feedback review, feedback may come from your supervisor or manager, your peers, your staff, or even customers. If done properly, a 360 degree feedback can help discover your strengths, and even your weaknesses as well, which can help map your personal development goals in your career. Questions Ask audience who’s familiar about 360 degree feedback Ask who among them have actually participated in a 360 degree feedback activity These persons can be the subject’s direct-report(s), staff, peers Usually used in a workplace setting

3 Introducing mod_threesixo A 360 degree feedback plugin for Moodle
So with that brief background about the 360 degree feedback, I’d like to introduce my 360 degree feedback plugin for Moodle -- mod_threesixo. For those of you using Moodle in your workplace, have you heard about this plugin? Questions Ask audience if they have ever heard of or used the mod_threesixo plugin

4 The project My first Moodle plugin 2015 HQ project week idea
Released 19 December 2017 Latest versions v (for Moodle 3.5) v (for Moodle 3.4) Stats: 500+ downloads 137 registered sites I’d like to share some fun facts about this plugin. This is my first Moodle plugin. In HQ, we use Moodle for some of our workplace-related matters, such as forums for posting team updates, and induction courses for new employees. One time, our HR organised a 360 degree feedback activity, but using a third party, non-Moodle tool. So I thought, such a similar tool can be implemented in Moodle as well. So mod_threesixo became my project week idea back in 2015. Speaking of project weeks, to those who might not be familiar, developers have project weeks in Moodle HQ. It’s a week where we set aside our normal Moodle development tasks, and do our personal, Moodle-related projects. Then after every project week, we do a show and tell about the projects that we worked on. Sounds cool? Then what are you waiting for? Apply now at Moodle HQ! So for every year, we have 2 to 4 project weeks, depending on how tight our schedules are during a release cycle. Given that I was only able to work on mod_threesixo during project weeks, it took me quite a while and I was only able to release it into the Moodle plugins database in December 2017. The latest versions support Moodle versions 3.4 and 3.5 and they were just released last Friday. While capturing screenshots for this presentation, I found some bugs and fixed them. I also made some improvements along the way. So instead of just working on this presentation for a couple of hours, I actually ended up working on this for a couple of days. Thanks, MoodleMoot! Some stats, mod_threesixo’s been downloaded for more than 500 times, and there are currently 137 registered sites all over the world that are using it.

5 Setting up a 360 degree feedback activity
Let’s dive in and see how this plugin looks and how it works.

6 Add instance in a course
Go to a course Turn editing on Add an activity or resource Select 360 degree feedback, then click Add

7 Enter details Give it a name and a description.
You can also choose whether to set the feedback as anonymous. Tick “Enable self-review” if you want respondents to review themselves. You may opt to choose which types of users can respond to the feedback. (e.g. all course participants, or

8 Set up the questionnaire
Before your feedback can be used by your participants, of course, you’ll have to set up the questionnaire. To set up the questionnaire, click on the “Edit 360 degree feedback items” button.

9 Items page On the feedback items page, you can add questions to your feedback by picking questions from the question bank. Just a disclaimer, this question bank is internal to the plugin and does not have anything to do with Moodle’s questions subsystem.

10 Question types Rated Scales Comments 0 - N/A 1 - Strongly disagree
3 - Somewhat disagree 4 - Somewhat agree 5 - Agree 6 - Strongly agree Comments For the mod_threesixo plugin, we use 2 types or questions. The first type is the Rated question type. Each rated question can be answered using a scale ranging from Not applicable, Strongly disagree to Strongly agree. The second type of question is the Comments question type, where respondents can enter their comments regarding the question about the subject.

11 Select questions So going back to the earlier page, clicking on the “Pick a question from the question bank” button launches a modal where we can select questions. The question picker modal, shows a table with the list of questions with columns that show the question, its type and the actions you can do to the question, such as editing it or deleting it. There’s also an add button which you can use to create new questions if you need to. So to pick one or more questions for your feedback activity, simply tick on the checkbox beside each question and when you’re done, save your changes.

12 Make your instance available!
Back on the feedback items page, you’ll see the questions that you picked. You can move these questions up or down, or you can also remove these. In this state, your feedback is almost ready for your participants. You just have to click on the “Make available” button.

13 Providing feedback So let’s on the side of the feedback participant.

14 Let’s say I log in as this staff named, Marvin.
Going to the view page of the 360 degree feedback activity, I will see the list of people that I can give feedback to. Let’s try to provide feedback for my colleague named Mestan. To do this, let’s click on the pencil icon.

15 We will then get redirected to the questionnaire for Mestan.
As you can see, you will see the rated questions on the upper part of the page. Just click on the rating that you want to provide for each rated question. At the bottom part of the screen, you will see the comment questions and the text area beside each question where we can input our comment feedback for Mestan. To finalise our feedback, let’s click on submit.

16 Since this is an anonymous feedback, upon submission, you will get a confirmation message to finalise the feedback. Doing so will anonymise your responses and you will no longer be able to change your answers.

17 Declining a feedback Users can also opt to decline giving feedback to another user.

18 For example, I haven’t experienced working with Manuel yet, so I’d like to decline giving feedback to him. To do this, I simply click on the trash icon.

19 Doing so will launch the decline feedback modal.
We can provide a reason why we’re declining a feedback. Then to proceed, save the changes.

20 After doing so, you’ll now see that the status for your feedback to Manuel now shows as Declined.

21 Viewing reports As an editing teacher in the course, we can see the results of the feedback given to your participants.

22 When you log in as an editing teacher and go to the view page of the feedback activity, click on the magnifier icon on the participant that you want to view.

23 On the results page, you’ll see the ratings on the upper half of the page.
Each rated question shows the average ratings. On the bottom part of the page, you’ll see the comments at the bottom, with the responses grouped per question.
