3. Early College Program Rationale & Objectives
Local Program – Concept developed at Simons Rock College (1964).
Reasonable Cost.
Allows Student to Finish High School While Enrolled at the College.
Real College Experience - Students attend classes with on-campus college students.
In most cases, credits earned (C and above) transfer easily to other two/four year colleges.

4. Early College Program Program Design
Small Classes – most sections capped at 35.
Classes will be scheduled during school hours.
Students choose which courses to take with guidance from the ECP campus counselor.
Transportation – Deer Park HS transports students to and from the HS & college for all 8 – 9:15 AM classes.
Communication with designated high school counselors and parents/guardians is maintained (a signed FERPA waiver is submitted).

Supportive College Faculty.
Available Resources – students are able to avail themselves of select college resources.
Learning Resource Center Library.
Centers for Academic Excellence (for academic support).
Captree Commons – campus bookstore, dining hall.
Special Events – students can attend late afternoon/evening/weekend campus activities.

Apply to the college of choice with a college track record.
College faculty letters of recommendation may be requested.
Transfer with college credit.
Knowledge of college policies/procedures.
Finish College Earlier – In two years students can earn a maximum of 33 college credits (inclusive of summers).
Be More Active – Take less credits each semester upon entry to college as a full-time student.
Stay at Suffolk to earn an Associate’s Degree.

Students Entering 11th or 12th Grade.
85+ High School Average.
At Least One Regents with 85+ Score.
Record of Good Attendance and Citizenship.
Recommendation from High School Counselor and Principal.

9. Early College Program Application Process
Families Complete a ‘Paper’ Application
Admissions application for new non-degree students
Program agreement
Health history/meningitis acknowledgment form
Student approval form from the student’s HS guidance counselor and principal
Essay: Students compose a one-page typed statement, “Why I Want to Be in the Early College Program”

10. Early College Program Application Process
High School – provides copy of the student’s grades/test scores and immunization records if needed.
Applications due by __2/13/18_ in the HS Guidance Office.
Approved applicants take three-part college placement test at the college campus.
Results are reviewed and the school is notified of acceptance results.
