3 Why use books for research?
You know the information is reliable. Editors and proofreaders have double-checked what the author has written. Anyone can put whatever they want on the Internet, true or false. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

How to Find a Book Click on the UGM Media Catalog icon It is on the desktop of every computer in the school. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

5 Click on the Catalog tab.

6 Type in your Topic in the box.

Then hit enter or….. Click on one of the icons below… Keyword is the best way to find everything on the topic you want. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

8 You will get a list of titles..

9 Look to the right to see if the book is in
1 of 1 available means we have 1 copy and it is in the media center. 0 of 1 available means we have 1 copy and it is checked out. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

10 What is does it mean when it says 2 of 2 available?
If you answered that the media center owns 2 copies of the book and both are in the media center, then you are correct. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

The number after the is the call number. that tells you where the book is on the shelf. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

The horse books are in 636.1. Go to the shelf labeled Look at the labels on the spines until you find the ones labeled 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

13 Do you need to read the entire book to find the information you want?
Not necessarily. You can use the Table of Contents or the Index to find the pages with specific information that you want. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

14 The Table of Contents is in the front of the book and…
Chapter 1….History of Horses Chapter 2….Diet for Horses Chapter 3….Grooming Horses Chapter 4….Show Horses Chapter 6….Draft Horses Chapter 7….Famous Horses it lists the chapters in the book and what the chapters are called. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center

15 The Index is in the back of the book and is a….
Arabian horses, 6-8 Black Velvet, 55 Barns, 33, 54 Curry Brush, 13, 22-26 Dental Care, 14 Dressage, 42-57 Feed, 16-18 list of topics, in alphabetical order, with the page number(s) the topic appears on. 2/19/2019 UGM Library Media Center
