2 Who are you? Your ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values and actions
Identity: an individual’s perception of who he or she is; a sense of self. A person may have many identities depending on the groups to which he or she belongs. Identity: Are you an athlete? Maybe you are a a goth at school, but on your soccer team you are an athlete.

Collection of values and beliefs about life that is common to a group of people Based on the way you act, react and feel about the world Not obvious (natural because you are a part of it)

4 What is a value and a belief?
A moral standard or principle of behaviour of a person or group Something accepted as true What are your beliefs and values?

5 What are some examples of Worldview?
Aboriginal People vs Western World Elders are respected for wisdom All life is sacred and equally important Life is a circle Individuality is important Basic education should be available to all Create our own venn diagram on the board- have students fill in diagram in their notes. Aboriginal People: To live in harmony with all created things. Ensure a balance between humans and the environment Acknowledge the creator as the giver of life Create world view through stories, dance, ceremonies, and traditions. Western World: -Peace keepers -Health care/Education= Public Do we value our elders? Value money and materialistic goods

6 Where do you belong? 1. What does the relationship between the Canadian government and its citizens show about a Canadian Worldview? 2. What does Canada’s view of its relationship with the rest of the world show about its Worldview? 3. Do we have a common view of how we as Canadians should act towards the rest of the world. Democracy vs. Communism -the people have a voice, we get to vote, we have a say in how our country runs. -It’s an open book, and we can be active participants for change. -Everyone deserves to be treated equally (public health care). 2. Charity work, peace keepers, volunteer work -We are members of the UN (United Nations, first world country, active participants in world aid). 3. How do you think Canada is perceived on a global scale? Do other countries like us?

What is a perspective? Ways of looking at the world What is multiculturalism? Many cultures What is a society? Groups of people linked by common activities Share a location
