2. WELCOME!

3. Mission Statement
It is the mission of Miami R-1 School to educate all students to their highest potential, allowing them to apply knowledge to improve the quality of their lives to recognize each child as a unique individual and to provide the opportunity to reach their maximum level of achievement.

4. What is Title I?
Title I provides federal funding to schools to help students who are low achieving or at most risk of falling behind.
Title I is allocated to schools based on the percentage of students receiving free/reduced lunch.
Schools with a percentage of at least 40% are eligible for a school-wide program.

5. Title I School-wide Program.
Miami R-1 operates a
Title I School-wide Program.

6. School-wide means:
The school uses Title I funds to upgrade the entire educational program of the school.
Title I funds are used to serve all children in order to raise academic achievement.
Title I funds will be used to provide additional assistance to all students who experience difficulties in meeting the State’s performance targets.

7. To be a “School-wide” School:
The school must have a free/reduced lunch count of at least 40%.
The school must collect and analyze data that affects student achievement.
The school must develop a comprehensive site plan and annually review the effectiveness of the plan.

8. Title I Focus Goals Reading Fluency
Comprehension of nonfiction and complex text

9. Fluency is the ability to read a text accurately, quickly, and with expression. Fluency is important because it provides a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. Students who can read fluently are more able to gain meaning from what they read.

10. Some characteristics of complex texts:
* contain more implicit meaning and use unconventional structures.
*make use of flashbacks, flash forwards, and/or multiple points of view.
* Informational texts may incorporate complex graphics and/or deviate from
the traditional conventions and norms for that
type of writing
* have literal meaning that is intentionally at odds with the underlying meaning.
* The purpose of informational texts may be implicit, hidden or obscure.

11. Curriculum and Instructional Strategies:
Curriculum and instruction is guided by state standards. In addition to whole group instruction, students will benefit from differentiated instruction in the Language Arts through leveled tiers within the classroom, Title 1/Small groups, technology, independent study, enrichment activities, tutoring, etc.

12. Students' academic levels and needs
are assessed through the use of
AimsWebPlus, STAR, and DRA2,
as well as teacher-created tests and
observations.

13. Students' progress is monitored on a
regular basis. Groups are fluid and students may move in and out of a
group as their needs change.

14. PARENTS RIGHT TO KNOW
Schools are required to notify parents if their child has
been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher that is not highly qualified.

15. Right to Request Meetings
Upon the request of parents, the school
must provide opportunities for regular meetings
for parents to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children.
The school must respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
