10 Tips for Parents Help your student understand the college search process Be realistic and non-judgmental Be in the "back seat" - and not the driver - of the college search process Be open to dialogue and responsive to questions Be aware of deadlines and fees due Know that things have changed since your college days Don’t over-emphasize your own alma maters Don’t compare your student with others Don’t dwell on disappointments, like a rejection letter Celebrate successes!

Things to Know Guidance Time Line Job Shadow College Visit
Oct. 1: FAFSA opens. Go to October 11: Senior Day (underclassmen testing—half day) Job Shadow College Visit Community Service Work on college applications at CLHS October12: College CLHS Athletes in season must stay on campus in Room 821 with Mr. Wilke Seniors are encouraged to attend the fair to ask last minute questions or get help with the application process for schools to which they are applying. Seniors are excused after 8th period and are not required to attend the fair—must exit out the 800 Wing to vehicles. October 12: Klein ISD College Fair—Champion Forest Baptist Church January (Date TBD): LSC Tomball College Visit Day –for seniors who will start there in Fall 2018. What if I am in the first quartile and could get automatic acceptance if CLHS ranked me? Student MUST see Ms. Brennan to request a letter to be sent with official transcript stating that if CLHS did rank, the student would be in the first quartile. This does not apply to A&M or UT. They give our school a ranking based on the School Profile that accompanies transcript. Athletes: Are you registered for NCAA Div. 1 or 2?

Walk Towards Graduation
Aug. 23 & 24: Cap & Gown Orders This Fall: Formal Senior Class Portrait will be taken End of February: Receive Cap and Gown By April 1: 1 casual picture of each senior: (G. Michael will provide 1 formal portrait of each senior) Ideas: Picture of senior involved in activity here at CLHS—Senior Year Only (this is what I prefer) Outside activity senior is involved in—Senior Year Only Picture must be clear and can include other seniors in the picture Please do NOT send formal portraits. I am looking for a casual picture. May 1: Candidate Reply Date—must let college know you are attending. May 3: Senior College Pictures (fun ones) By May 4: Request Final Transcript in Family Connection May 7-18: AP exams Week after DC class ends: Request transcript from LSC TBD: Graduation Luncheon/Rehearsal May 20: Graduation Information can be found on pg. 4 of the Senior Handbook.
