4. THE FAFSA
Determines eligibility for federal student aid.
May also be used to determine state and institutional aid.
Requires income information for most recent tax year (2017 for the FAFSA).
Calculates financial need based on certain factors, including (but not limited to) income, household size and number in college.

To be considered independent on the FAFSA, a student must meet one of the following:
At least 24 years old
Married
Graduate or Professional student
Providing support (greater than half) for dependent(s)
A veteran or member of the U.S. armed forces
