Define Terms Health - It is a combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well- being. There are three aspects to total Health: Physical, Mental & Emotional and Social.

Total Health Physical Health- Includes taking care of your body through physical activity, nutritious and having a good check up at the doctor. Mental/Emotional Health – how someone handles their feelings, stress, thoughts as well as situations you face every day. Social Health- Supporting the people you care and making sure they respect you. Communicating with Respect and valuing people. The ability to keep and make friends is another mark of good social health. When you have good relationships with others, you feel cared for and respected.

What is Wellness Define Wellness- is a state of well-being (comfort), or total health. Health is balanced when Wellness is Achieved. Wellness is a continuum (uninterrupted sequence) or scale. Changes During The Teen Years Define Adolescence- Teen Years, this is the stage of life between childhood and adulthood.

Changes During the Teen Years
Mental/Emotional Changes – A person’s ability to think and reason. Analyze different points of views. Mood swings occur through the release of hormones. Social Changes- Connections with other people Family Relationships- less dependent on parents and can discuss openly with parents their feelings. It’s important to keep a positive attitude with people in your family so you do not have stress but good social health. Peer Relationships- are people in your age group. Community Service- Volunteering to Helping Others in Needs, Does more for the Volunteer through feelings of reward.

Taking Responsibility for Your Health
Choosing to Live Healthfully Define Lifestyle Factors- Behaviors and habits that help determine a person’s level of health and wellness. Risks and Your Health Risky Behaviors- are actions or behaviors that might cause injury or harm to yourself or others.

Risks and Your Health Risky Behaviors- are actions or behaviors that might cause injury or harm to yourself or others. Short-term Risky Behavior can Have long-term consequences of safety, risky or harmful behavior. EX: Driving Drunk, Having Unprotected Sex. Sedentary Lifestyle- a way of life with little or no physical activity.

Risks and Consequences
Consequnces- a direct cause and effect of a decision we make. Either, it’s positive effect or a negative effect. Minor Consequences- eating wings, chocolate or drink a coke. Cumulative Risks- risks that increase the effect with each added risk. Example: Whip flash from a car wreck and Death from not wearing a seatbelt.

Reducing Risks Precautions- are planned actions taken before an event to increase the chances of a sage outcome. Ex: Wearing proper equipment when competing in a sport, Caution signs when the floor is wet from mopping. Prevention- taking steps t otkeep something from happening or getting worse. Ex: Annual Dental, Vision and Doctors check ups.

Choosing Abstinence The #1 most effective prevention is Abstinence.
Abstinence is the conscious, active choice not to participate in high- risk behaviors. Ex: Abstinence of Sexual Activity, Tobacco, Alcohol and other Drugs Abstinence benefits all sides of Your Health

Taking Responsibility for Your Health
Choose Behaviors which promote good Health. Staying CURRENT on Break Throughs and Development. Attitude- is a personal feeling or belief. Positive Attitude + Taking Responsibility + Believing in Good Habits = Good Health!
