1 Micrograph Images Biology

2 What type of cell? How do you know?
b c

3 What type of microscope are you looking through both are plant images.

4 Guess the organelle? d c a b e

5 What structures identify this organelle?
b - mitochondria c - choloroplast a - nucleus d - rough endoplasmic reticulum

6 Does the organelle belong to a plant, animal, or both?
b/c e

7 How big or little is the cell/organelle?
Ribosome d c

8 Surface Area to Volume Why would it be important for a organelles, cells, or tissues to have lots of internal folds while remaining relatively small in size?

9 Light Microscope Lab Follow the procedures at each station for preparing lettuce, onion, cheek cells, and observe a prepared blood cell slide. Observe and record any parts you recognize Record cell size Compare your results to the next few slides.

10 Elodea Cells

11 Onion Stained with Iodine
Cell wall cytoplasm Nuclear envelope nucleolus chromatin

12 Cheek Cells Stained with Methyl Blue
Plasma Membrane Nucleus Cytoplasm

13 Blood Cell

14 Plant Versus Animal Cell
Note the cell wall present in both onion and elodea cells. No such cell wall is visible in the animal cell. All cells have visible nuclei and nucleoli, nuclear envelopes, and cytoplasm.
