Matthew 10:1-4 Mark 3:13-19 Luke 6:12-16 The Selection Of The 12 Apostles What preceded Jesus’ selection? He went off to the mountain to pray all night. Luke 6:12 He determined those who He “wanted” (determined, resolved, chosen, preferred). Mark 3:13 (Do we pray about, and then “determine” who we will associate with? Proverbs 13:20) He then “called” these 12 to Himself. Acts 2:39

Mark 3:13-14 “… He could send them out (Greek: apostello) to preach (be a herald) …” Luke 6:13, “He also named as apostles” (Apostle: one set apart and sent forth on service or with a commission (Vine)) They acted on behalf of Christ and the Father who sent Him as “ambassadors.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 They would be told to “go.” Matthew 10:6-7; 28:19; Mark 16:15

Mark 3:13-14 “… to have authority (exousia) to cast out demons” yet subservient to the One who sent them (John 13:16) They carried the authority of the One who sent them. Luke 10:16; Matthew 21:33ff. But they didn’t flaunt the authority invested in them. 1 Thessalonians 2:6-7

Ephesians 2:20; Ephesians 4:11-14; 1 Corinthians 3:10; Matthew 18:18 Serve Christ in the kingdom and be stewards of God’s mysteries. 1 Corinthians 4:1 Reveal “all truth.” John 16:13
