1 Ephesians 6:10-18 I Peter 5:8 James 4:7
Our Enemy is Real Ephesians 6:10-18 I Peter 5:8 James 4:7

2 Three Enemies in the Christian life
World Flesh Devil ~~~World ~~~Flesh ~~~~~~Devil

3 World 1 John 2:15–17 (ESV) — 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. ~~~~~~~~1 John 2:15–17 (ESV) — 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

4 Don’t play the victim to circumstances you created.
James 1:14–15 (ESV) — 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Desire  Sin  Death ~~~~James 1:14–15 (ESV) — 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. ~~~~~~~~Desire  Sin  Death

5 Let’s look at our enemy and how to resist him.
James 4:7–8 (ESV) — 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ~~~~~~~James 4:7–8 (ESV) — 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

6 The Dwelling place of Satan
Ephesians 6:10–18 (ESV) — 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord … For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God … 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, ~~~~~~Ephesians 6:10–18 (ESV) — 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

8 In the Earth and Heaven-Going to and fro
Job 1:6–7 (ESV) — 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” ~~~~~~~Job 1:6–7 (ESV) — 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”

9 There will come a time when satan is cast out of heaven.
Revelation 12:9–10 (ESV) — 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. ~~~~~~~Revelation 12:9–10 (ESV) — 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

10 Satan and his host walk among people
1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Exercises authority among people Deceives people Temps and tries to destroy people, things, relationships, love ~~~1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) Be sober-minded; be watchful. 11 The Work of Satan Gen 3:1-6

12 Satan is the author of sin in this world.
Isaiah 14:12–15 (ESV) — 12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! 13 You said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’ 15 But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit. ~~~~~~Isaiah 14:12–15 (ESV) — 12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn!

13 Satan is the author of sickness.
Acts 10:38 (ESV) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Luke 13:16 (ESV) And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?” ~~~Acts 10:38 (ESV) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. ~~~~~~~Luke 13:16 (ESV) And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?”

14 Satan has the power of death.
Hebrews 2:14 (ESV) Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, He is its author. Every cemetery and every funeral, and every separation by death, owes its existence to the Devil. ~~~Hebrews 2:14 (ESV) — 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, ~~~~~~He is its author. Every cemetery and every funeral, and every separation by death, owes its existence to the Devil.

15 The Devil tempts men to sin. He is the “tempter.”
1 Chronicles 21:1 (ESV) Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel. ~~~~~~1 Chronicles 21:1 (ESV) Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel.

16 The Devil lays snares for men.
1 Timothy 3:7 (ESV) Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil. 2 Timothy 2:26 (ESV) and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. ~~~1 Timothy 3:7 (ESV) Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil. ~~~~~~2 Timothy 2:26 (ESV) and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

17 The devil puts wicked purposes into the hearts of men.
This is, of course, by their consent, or when they leave an opening. Acts 5:3 (ESV) But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? John 13:2 (ESV) During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, This is, of course, by their consent, or when they leave an opening. Acts 5:3 (ESV) But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? John 13:2 (ESV) During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,

18 The devil personally enters into men.
John 13:27 (ESV) Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, “What you are going to do, do quickly.” He caricatures God’s work Ephesians 2:2 (ESV) in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience ~~~John 13:27 (ESV) Then after he had taken the morsel, Satan entered into him. 19 Satan blinds the minds of the unbelieving that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, may not dawn upon them. 2 Corinthians 4:4 (ESV) In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. The Holy Spirit illuminates the minds of men-to Jesus Evil one blinds minds of men Mark 4:15 (ESV) And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. Philippians 2:13 (ESV) for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. ~~~2 Corinthians 4:4 (ESV) In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 1. The Holy Spirit illuminates the minds of men-to Jesus 2. Evil one blinds minds of men Awful blindness of men is because of Satanic blindness Simplest truths are not understood ~~~~~~~Mark 4:15 (ESV) And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them.

20 Satan takes away the word out of the hearts of those who hear it but do not understand and hold it fast.

21 The Devil sows tares in God’s field.
Matthew 13:39 (ESV) and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. ~~~~~~Matthew 13:39 (ESV) and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels.

22 Satan will give power to the lawless one to utterly deceive the perishing, those who receive not the love of truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:9–10 (ESV) — 9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Men can have truth or lies, whichever they prefer. If they will to do God’s will, He will give them truth (John 7:17), and the Spirit will guide them ultimately into all the truth. (John 16:13) But if men will not have truth Satan will lead them step by step into all manner of delusion and falsehood. Vitally important slide ~~~2 Thessalonians 2:9–10 (ESV) — 9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ~~~Men can have truth or lies, whichever they prefer. ~~~If they will to do God’s will, He will give them truth (Jno. 7:17, R. V.), and the Spirit will guide them ultimately into all the truth. (Jno. 16:13, R. V.) ~~~~~~But if men will not have truth Satan will lead them step by step into all manner of delusion and falsehood.

23 Satan has his ministers and his churches to carry on his work.
2 Corinthians 11:14–15 (ESV) — 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. Revelation 3:9 (ESV) Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you. ~~~2 Corinthians 11:14–15 (ESV) — 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. ~~~~~~Revelation 3:9 (ESV) — 9 Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.

24 Satan, by his messengers, buffets God’s servants.
2 Corinthians 12:7–8 (ESV) — 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. ~~~~~~2 Corinthians 12:7–8 (ESV) — 7 So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

25 Satan resists the servants of God in the completion of their work.
Zechariah 3:1 (ESV) Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. Daniel 10:13 (ESV) The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, ~~~Zechariah 3:1 (ESV) — 1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. ~~~~~~Daniel 10:13 (ESV) — 13 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia,

26 Satan hinders Christ’s servants in the carrying out of their desires.
1 Thessalonians 2:18 (ESV) because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan hindered us. But good may come of that. This hindering of Paul going to Thessalonica gave to the saints there, and to coming generations, this precious epistle. ~~~1 Thessalonians 2:18 (ESV) because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, again and again—but Satan hindered us. ~~~~~~~But good may come of that. This hindering of Paul going to Thessalonica gave to the saints there, and to coming generations, this precious epistle.

27 Satan shakes Christ’s disciples up and sifts them.
Luke 22:31–32 (ESV) — 31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Only good comes of this in the end. Satan simply succeeded in sifting some of the chaff out of him. (Rom. 8:28.) ~~~Luke 22:31–32 (ESV) — 31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” ~~~~~~Only good comes of this in the end. Simon came out of Satan’s merciless sieve purer wheat than he was before. Satan simply succeeded in sifting some of the chaff out of him. (Rom. 8:28.)

28 Satan accuses the brethren before God day and night.
Revelation 12:9–10 (ESV) for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. The Greek word for “devil” means “traducer,” “accuser,” “slanderer.” ~~~Revelation 12:9–10 (ESV) — 9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. ~~~~~~The Greek word for “devil” means “traducer,” “accuser,” “slanderer.” (Comp. Job. 1:6–9; 2:3–5.)

29 Job 2:3–5 (ESV) — 3 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? He still holds fast his integrity, although you incited me against him to destroy him without reason.” 4 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Skin for skin! All that a man has he will give for his life. 5 But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.” Job 1:6–9 (ESV) — 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” 8 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?” 9 Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for no reason? ~~~~~~~~Job 2:3–5 (ESV) — 3 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil? All that a man has he will give for his life. 5 But stretch out your hand and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse you to your face.”

30 The Devil casts Christ’s servants into prison. Revelation 2:10 (ESV)
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. ~~~~~~~Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

31 Only good need come of persecutions
Only good need come of persecutions. They are thus tried and purified and obtain the crown of life.

32 and give no opportunity to the devil.
