4. Your job is figure out that reason.

5. To figure out an author’s purpose you have to look at the opinions they express.

It was a dark and stormy night. I was alone in the house. My parents were out for the night and left me for the first time to take care of myself. I had convinced them that I was old enough, but now I was not so sure. Every sound became a murder in the dark. Every lightening strike shook me to the bone.
