1 GREAT COLLEGES TO WORK FOR: 2016 SURVEY PROGRESS
2017 Compensation & Classification Study: In 2017, salary bands were implemented for all staff positions. Employee compensation moved to the 25th percentile and in 2018, employee compensation was moved closer to the 20th percentile. Streamlined the PRC process with integration of the salary bands and the implementation of an Applicant Tracking System for staff, PageUp. 2019 Health Benefits: Implementation of Apta Health Care Coordinator model Conversion from Anthem to UHC Plus Training Opportunities and Policies, Procedures, & Processes: All day New Staff Orientation implemented twice per month Butler Enhanced Supervisor Training (BEST 1.0) implemented for all staff supervisors Implementation of Ask HR; 15,000 HR ticket requests answered for BU Campus Community, August to December 2018 HR Status form updated and simplified and unscheduled closure policy was updated BUPD updated the Campus Emergency Plan (CERP) Diversity & Inclusion Efforts: Athletics and Enrollment Management completed comprehensive diversity & inclusion trainings featuring both in person and online segments. Online diversity training available to all faculty and staff. Student affairs has taken many diversity initiatives including bringing Dr. Juan Guardia to campus, hosting Dr. Rev. Jamie Washington for day-long staffing training, expanding Butler’s engagement and outreach with the Indianapolis LGBTQ community, and sending a team of administrators and faculty to an intensive learning experience to allow Butler to begin developing plans to advance diversity on campus as just a few of the major highlights. Student enrollment has reflected an increase of diversity on campus from 7.6% in 2009 to 13.74% in 2017. In partnership with the Core Curriculum office, 17 courses have been approved to integrate SJD learning outcomes for students. Dr. Terri Jett, Special Assistant to the Provost for Diversity and Inclusivity, assists with Diversity and Inclusivity training as part of the Fall Academic Workshop.

Rewards & Recognition: HR launched a university-wide Thank You Card program for peer to peer recognition Advancement, Operations, Finance & Administration, Butler Arts Center, and College of Education all implemented internal recognition and appreciation programs Progress in Other Areas at Butler University: Athletics has hosted annual staff meetings, implemented annual 1:1 meetings with Barry Collier, V.P. and Director of Athletics, and improved performance in the Big East to 6th overall in the division. The Department of Public Safety and BUPD have introduced communication in writing programs, hired an additional officer for the late shift, and offered more in-house training to staff Enrollment Management has made conscious efforts to improve the work-life balance of their staff in both departments and build a supportive environment Information Technology has implemented a ticketing system to provide efficient and effective service and meet the Butler community needs, provided IT staff with wellness opportunities at the HRC, and volunteer opportunities throughout the year Operations implemented the Achieve Your Degree program with Ivy Tech and provided staff non-slip shoes in Building Services, exhibiting a commitment to safety The Lacy School of Business implemented an empowered chair model which allows chairs to have some decision making ability to lead faculty meetings and share faculty successes in relation to research and publication The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences hosts two college meetings per semester, established a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Department and participated in the Denison Cultural Survey The College of Communication created a recognition/social events committee, established a CCOM employee portal to share information, and made progress toward providing leadership conferences and workshop opportunities. The Dean’s Office of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences hosts working lunches for staff employees to improve communication with the Dean University Advancement has implemented a division-wide wellness program offering lunchtime seminars focused on career, social, financial, physical, and community wellness. They also have annual staff awards related directly to their key values.  Additionally, the division has renovated their work space to be a brighter (new paint, lights, carpeting, decor, etc.) and more welcoming environment. Student Academic Affairs hosts informal get-togethers with employees from multiple units gathering to build and strengthen personal and professional relationships and sharing key information with each other Marketing and Communication has transformed their divisional meetings into creative spaces of exploration with guided exercises and assemble monthly with all marketing and communication representatives across the Butler University campus Next Survey March 19th – April 2nd, 2019
