1 How can we save forest biodiversity?

2 United colours: Forests with a rich mixture of species not only look more interesting, they are also more productive and can thus better protect us from climate change. (Image: Deborah Taylor.) Current Biology  , R1167-R1170DOI: ( /j.cub ) Copyright © Terms and Conditions

3 Productivity mapped: A global study of the productivity of forests as a function of biodiversity found a strong correlation, with productivity responding more sharply to species loss the more the diversity declines. The parameter θ mapped here represents the relative change of productivity per change of species richness, so the dark blue areas will be affected most strongly by further losses of species. 4 Forest life: Biodiversity is not only found in tropical rainforests
Forest life: Biodiversity is not only found in tropical rainforests. Underappreciated biomes such as tropical seasonally dry forests also need protection. Ceiba trees, a genus found in the dry forests from Mexico to Brazil, can store water in their swollen trunks, which enables them to survive prolonged drought.
