Year 4 Newsletter January 2015 Dear Parents, Carers and Children, Welcome back to school after the Christmas break. We hope you feel rejuvenated and ready to learn. Kind Regards, The Year 4 Team This term our topic will be HOMEWORK Please make sure your homework is completed to a high standard. This is an opportunity to practice what we have been doing in class. READING Please listen to your child for 15 minutes every night and remember to sign the reading record book. REMINDERS Homework is due in every Thursday and will be handed out again each Friday. Reading books are due in every Tuesday and Thursday.

Please encourage your child to use their mathletics account. Progress is already being made and so far I have handed out silver and bronze certificates. Science – Sound This term we will be learning about how sound is made and how it travels. We will be discussing how sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases. ART This term we will be looking at the life of William Morris. We are going to study his designs and we will be creating some of our very own wallpaper. History – We will be discussing how life has changed since the Victorian era. The Victorians Our Power of Reading Text is Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. We will be reading the retold version by Gill Tavner. The children will be role-playing, writing diary entries, newspaper reports, creating character descriptions and lots more! In music we will be singing a well known song from the musical Oliver Twist!
