Local Public transportation network connects all parts of city as well as suburbs Food/restaurants focus on sourcing locally Distinct neighborhoods have unique identities Local language and history is maintained

My first realization of the French immersion I would get in Montreal.

Francophone French taught in schools and zealously defended by law Style of language distinct from anywhere else in French world City is technically bilingual, but preference overtly leans toward French o All advertisements, media, street signs, etc. are in French

Cosmopolitan Hub for immigration Modern/effective transportation, power, etc. Society seems generally progressive o Education o Healthcare o Environmental concerns Appreciation for the arts

Green 97% of energy is produced hydro electrically and there is expansion into biomass and wind energy Solar street lights were found commonly Biodome heated through groundwater At least two recycling bins for every trash can in the metro

Culturally Rich Distinctive heritage with diverse backgrounds/roots o As seen in architecture Citizens seem motivated to preserve the province's uniqueness (especially relating to language)

What we found hard to understand: Restaurant etiquette o Tipping, checks, etc. Language

Comparison to other experiences: Safe Temperament/attitude of locals o Not snotty about language, etc. Language (especially French) o Culturally important Transportation o Easy to navigate
