THE SUCCESS ICEBERG Overview
It is well known that most of an iceberg is under the water, there is a lot hidden from sight - success is no different. The amount of work involved before success can be achieved should not be underestimated by coaches, nor should they fail to speak to young players/athletes about it. Using the success iceberg, coaches can explain to young players/athletes that it takes time before they achieve success, there may be short-term gains, but to achieve their long-term goal takes time, effort and crucially, mistakes. Take some time to discuss the success iceberg with young players/athletes, you may even want to bring in older players/athletes who are further along the development pathway. Discuss with the player/athlete that outcomes (medals, trophies etc) can’t be achieved without a lot of unseen work. Rate this tool! Give us your feedback.
