23. Tips for Parents
Be involved: what are your children doing online and on their phones? Ask about their online friends and how they communicate with any unknown contacts. Talk to them about the dangers of meeting up.
Be prepared: Lay out clear boundaries of where your children are allowed to go on the Web and consider installing internet filters – but don’t rely on them.
Be critical: If children are using the Internet to do their homework, help them to evaluate the material they see.

Be informed: Get a copy of the school policy on internet use. Make sure it’s something you are comfortable with.
Be visible: Where is the computer situated in the house? Apply time limits and conditions of use.
Be partners with your children’s school. Help to give them a consistent message.

Be there: It’s not enough to give out rules and regulations; make surfing a family activity and not an alternative childminder!
Be able to listen calmly: Let your children know that if they are upset by anything they see on the Internet they can talk to you.
