New User Training Welcome to Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor New user training. In this session, we will cover searching and browsing the site as well as administrative functionality such as adding in custom protocols.

Immediate Search Results
Let’s begin our tour. Here you can see the homepage of Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor. Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor’s highly user-friendly search allows you to search by full text or title. As you start to enter in a term, you will notice [click] that some options are presented to you so if desired you can immediately go to a monograph on the topic you have searched for.

Immediate Results Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor was designed by clinical nurses who understand nurses need to find key information quickly. That’s why you’ll find the same consistent, easy to read, format and headings for every monograph. [click] Every monograph can be viewed either in its entirety or one section at a time by selecting from the section list in the left navigation bar. [click] You can also use that same left navigation bar to jump quickly to the information you are searching as it will take you immediately to that portion of the monograph. Also, you can easily access related information by selecting a link within a monograph. [click] Here you can see the arrow pointing to the link to more information on diabetes.

Immediate Results You can also access related information by using the inks to related content found in the right navigation bar. Related content might include treatments associated with a disease, images or many other options.

Easy browsing If you prefer, you can also browse for the information you need. Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor offers an easy-to-use browse feature to quickly locate information about drugs, diseases, test, symptoms and various treatments. To start, select one of the listed topics.

Easy to Use Search Feature
In the case where you search a term that does not have a matching monograph, you will see a results screen, ordered by relevance. You’ll notice all the instances of the term you searched on are highlighted.

You are able to filter down the search results by topic using the left navigation bar. This example is filtered by treatments.

In-depth searching If you want to search for more information on a topic, you can also search pubmed or the national guidelines. To do so, enter you search in the search feed and then filter using pubmed in the left navigation bar. Here you can see the results. Once you click on one, [click] you will now see the complete reference version of the article. You can also choose to view the abstract by clicking here. You are also able to link out to pub med by clicking the unique identifier. [click].

Nursing Care Plans You are also able to customize to your patient and then print out the nursing care plan monographs. To do this, browse or search to the nursing care plan that is needed and click the print button [click] found at the upper right. This will open a box [click] where you can add your patient’s name, select the appropriate categories and add additional notes in the “other” area as shown here. Then just select print in the upper right of this box when ready to print.

Patient Teaching Handouts
Your Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor subscription includes access to the MedFacts Patient Handouts. You may also have access to McKesson Patient Handouts if your facility has purchased an optional subscription. To find a patient handout, you can either search and filter by MedFacts or McKesson or [click] browse using the selection boxes.

Patient Teaching Handouts
Once you locate the patient teaching handout you need, you can view the spanish version [click], or print and [click] the English version. When you choose print, a box [click] will pop up which allows you to enter a patient’s name and patient specific notes.

Administrative Functionality
Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor allows a facility to add their custom protocols or notes to the top of any existing topic. To do this, you must have a user name and password with administrative access of Level 2 or administrator. To access the admin area, click on the log-in area at the upper right.

Protocols Once you enter, you will view the administrative areas you have access to- user management, protocol management, and facility management. To access the protocols management area, click the protocols tab [click]. Next browse into the topic area you would like to add a protocol. [click] You will notice that all standard topics have an S in front of them, [click] Standard topics with a protocol added have an S in the front and a P at the end, and [click] standalone protocols added by the customer and not associated with a standard topic have a C in front and P on the end.[click] Draft protocols are also designated by D and P. You can also click on the words standard, custom, draft, and protocol to filter and view these types of protocols from within that specific topic and category.

Protocols If you would like to add a protocol to a standard topic, select the topic and then click add protocol in the right menu. You will next see the edit protocols screen. [click] Here you are able to add in text, links, lists, and images as well as adjust fonts and font style with the menu bar. We also recommend you add comments in the bottom Editorial comments area. These comments will appear in an audit trail for the protocols so you can who completed changes in the future. [click] to edit a protocol, click the button on the right menu while highlighting the protocol you wish to edit. The Edit protocol screen will appear and you can then make your changes.

Protocols If you would like to add a custom protocol entry, that is not associated with any existing topic, click on the Create a New Standalone protocol link on the right menu..This will open up a new create protocols screen [click] that allows you to enter the protocol name, select the topic area and category you would like it to fall under, and then enter your own text. After publishing, this protocol will appear as an entry in the topic and category you chose.

Protocols Here you can see a sample of how the protocol will appear along with a standard monograph topic. The body of the protocol will appear at the top of the monograph and a link will be added at the top of the left menu.

Maintain Facility Here is the facility maintenance screen. From this screen, you are able to add your facility’s name and logo. To add your name, simply type in the name you would like to appear in the box. To add your logo, browse using the browse button to the side of the facility image area. The Facility Image should be no bigger than 60 pixels high and 120 pixels wide (60 x 120). The logo will print at the top of the first page of all monographs. Facility Subscription Information The Facility Subscription Information box displays the expiration date for your subscription and the Internet Protocol (IP) address ranges that are authenticated for your facility. IP addresses that are not in the range will not have access to your version of Lippincott's Nursing Advisor.

Maintain Users To perform user maintenance tasks, click the Users tab. Lippincott's Nursing Advisor allows you to Add manually or import users, edit users and delete users.

User Types and Permissions
Access General, Level 1, Level 1.5: All general options. No access to Administration Tools. Level 2: All general options. Access to all Administration Tools except Facility. Administrator: All program options and all administration tools. Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor user information is shared with Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills. As a result, users may be listed as General, Level 1, Level 1.5. Level 2, or administators. However, in Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor- only level 2 and administrator users will have any administrative rights.

To add a user, follow these steps from the Users tab. 1. Click the Add New User button.

Adding Users Next Type information into the text boxes, including User Type from the drop-down menu. If you need a refresher of the permissions for the various level types, click on the ? Icon shown here. 3. Click the Save button.

Importing Users You are also able to Import Users into Lippincott’s Nursing Advisor To do so, start by clicking the Import Users button.

Importing Users Lippincott's Nursing Advisor should now display your import options. To proceed, follow these steps. 1. Click the file-type radio button: XML or CSV depending on your file type. 2. Type a file name into the text box or browse to locate and select a file to import. Click the Import List button. NOTE: It is important that you format the files according to the instructions within the “Help” [click] area. If you do not, the program will not be able to import the file. If the file is formatted incorrectly, the program will display an error informing you of the problem.

Editing Users From the Users tab, you can edit user information by following these steps. 1. Select a user from the display user list. Lippincott's Nursing Advisor refreshes the tab with the user's information. 2. Make the changes you want to the user's information. NOTE: user name and password information are required for all registered users. Click the Save button. If you are also a subscriber to Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills, any changes to a user account will also be reflected in Lippincott’s Nursing Procedures and Skills.

From the Users tab, you can delete a user by selecting a name from the user list and clicking the Delete User button.
