What Is An Oracle? Webster’s defines oracles as “among the ancients, the response of a deity or inspired priest to some inquiry; the deity who gave the answer; the place where a deity might be consulted; the holy of holies in the Jewish temple; a prophetic declaration; a prophet or person of reputed wisdom.” One of the most widely known oracles of the ancient world was located at Delphi in what is Greece

W. E. Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words and Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament both agree that oracle (logion) is “a diminutive of logos (word) meaning a brief narrative, statement, a divine response or utterance”

Post-apostolic writers
Ignatius ( AD) quoted Christ and called His teachings oracles Clement ( AD) called the holy scriptures oracles Polycarp ( AD) referred to the sayings of the Lord as oracles.

Oracles Must Have An Oracle
Jesus Christ serves as our oracle Prophesied (Deut. 18:18-19; Acts 3:22-23) God speaks through Him (Heb. 1:1-2) God recognized Him as His Oracle (Matt. 17:5) Jesus’ own admission (Jn. 8:26; 12:49) The apostles pointed out that they were only repeating what Jesus Christ, the oracle of God, had proclaimed (Acts 4:20; 1 Thess. 2:13)
