Creating and Managing Categories

Creating and Managing Categories: Getting Started
What is a Category? A Category is a way to group content, making it easier for site visitors to browse your pages and find information. How are Categories created? Your categories are originally imported from your previous site. You can also add new Categories to your site at any time.
6
Creating and Managing Categories: Getting Started
Where do Category pages live? Like standard Pages in Core Publisher, your Category pages will not show up in your Local News river. You can link to your pages in your Flexi Menu, Flexi Footer and Sticky Strip.
7
Creating and Managing Categories: Getting Started
What Categories should I have on my site? Consider two things when creating Categories: What topics does your station focus on? What topics are important to your listeners and web visitors? Category pages are hubs of content that can be used to draw visitors to your site. Your Categories should be subjects that you will be adding content to often that pertain to your station’s goals while fulfilling a need in your listening community.
8
Creating and Managing Categories: Getting Started
Best practices about Categories: Categories should be one word, two words max. Broadest way to capture your content. What are the broadest possible topics for your site? What’s the most succinct way to say that? Five is great, ten too many. This is a way to organize your content, if you have too many you lose your focus. Is this category warranted?

21
Creating and Managing Tags: Getting Started
What is a Tag? Tags have multiple purposes on a post. Not only are they helpful for search engine optimization and make it easier for web visitors to search your site for content, each tag links to a page containing all posts with that tag. How are Tags created? Every Tag that you add when creating a post is saved on your site. You can also manually add tags to your site.
22
Creating and Managing Tags: Getting Started
Where do Tag pages live? Your Tags appear at the bottom of your post when published. Each tag links to a Tagged: page, that contains all posts with that same tag.
23
Creating and Managing Tags: Getting Started
A few notes on Tags: Tags are not “smart”, so make sure that you are not duplicating a tag when you add it to a post. (ex. Holiday is not the same as holiday or Holidays) You should create best practices for your tags to avoid duplication. (ex. Decide whether you want to use election, Election 2012 or Election ’12) The Tag field on the post form is an auto-complete field. Once you start typing in your tag, select it from the auto-complete dropdown to avoid duplicating the tag.
