6 CEV Holy Bible Jubilee Ed
*Call to Worship CEV Holy Bible Jubilee Ed One: The book of First Samuel tells the story of Samuel, God’s chosen one, who was mighty in faith and led Israel during the time of the Judges. Many: Praise God for those who serve God faithfully.

7 One: First Samuel also tells the story of how Israel begged God to have a King like everyone else and when Samuel grew old, God gave Israel its first King, Saul. Many: We rejoice when God answers our prayers, but like Saul, sometimes we fail to listen to and follow God’s instructions.

8 One: First Samuel ends with David becoming King because Saul failed to listen to God, lost his mind and then his life. Many: O Lord God, call to us like you called Samuel, Saul and David. As Samuel raised a stone in chapter 7 and said, ‘this marks the place where God helped us;’ so we raise our voices as a sign of thanksgiving for how you have helped us along our way.

9 Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (1)
400 WORDS: Robert Robinson, 1758 (1 Sam. 7:12) 1. Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace;

10 streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise.

11 Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above.

12 Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love.

13 Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (2)
2. Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I’m come;

14 and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home.

15 Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God;

16 he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood.

17 Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (3)
3. O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be!

18 Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee.

19 Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love;

20 here’s my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.

thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

31 but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

32 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

34 *Scripture Reading I Samuel 17:2-9 2 Saul and the Israelites gathered and encamped in the valley of Elah, and formed ranks against the Philistines. 3 The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. 4 And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. 5 He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail;

35 the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze
the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. 6 He had greaves of bronze on his legs and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders. 7 The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron; and his shield-bearer went before him. 8 He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.

36 9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants; but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.”
