1 Parts of a Flower

2 Flower Sexual reproductive structure Produces egg and sperm
Fertilization takes place inside the flower

3 Male and Female Parts of a Flower
Female Parts of the Flower- Pistil Male Parts of the Flower- Stamen Stigma Anther 2. Style 2. Filament 3. Ovary 4. Ovule

4 Female Parts of a Flower
Pistil- the female reproductive organ. Made up of stigma, style, ovary, and ovule. Stigma Top of the pistil, sticky surface for pollen to stick to Style Connects the stigma to the ovary Passage way for pollen It raises the stigma away from the ovary to decrease the likelihood of pollen contamination.

5 Female Parts Cont. Ovary Protects the ovule, contains ovules (eggs)
Once fertilization takes place it becomes the fruit Ovule Like the egg in animals Seeds develop here Once fertilization occurs it becomes the seed

6 Male Parts of the Flower
Stamen- male reproductive organ. Made up of the anther and filament Anther Contains pollen sacs, produces sperm The sacs release pollen Filament Supports the anther

7 Other parts of the Flower
Petal Petal Colorful, used to attract insects Sepal Protects the developing bud Stem Supports the flower and transports water and food Sepal Stem

8 Pollination Transfer of mature pollen grains from the anther to the stigma Transferred by: Wind Insects Birds and other animals

9 Fertilization The sperm travels through the pollen tube (style) to the ovule. The sperm and egg fuse forming the zygote (fertilized egg)-this grows in to the plant embryo. The ovary and zygote (fertilized ovule) develop and ripen.

10 Fertilization The ovule forms the seed. The ovary forms the fruit.
A fruit is a ripened ovary.
