Segregation: the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or establishment
Jim Crow: refers to a series of racist laws and measures that discriminated against African- Americans. Even though these laws were enacted between 1876 and 1965
Racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior

6. Jim crow laws (1880) Examples:
Laws were passed to separate whites and blacks
Businesses discriminated against African Americans and forced them out of communities
Often there was violence
