8 Outlining practice Create an outline using the following information:
Subject: Causes of Teen Car Accidents Here is the introduction: Introduction A. (HOOK) Car accidents may occur without warning, but they definitely don’t occur without a cause. B. (Focus) Car accidents leading cause of death among teens. C. (Background) Center for Disease Control says teens four times more likely to die in car accidents than adults D. (Thesis) Understanding the major causes of car accidents, such as bad weather, distractions, and drug and alcohol use, can help prevent accidents. .

10 Your Outline Look at your thesis statement to find your main topics (usually 3-4) Organize your note cards by main topics across the top of your desk Under the main topic cards, organize your subtopic cards Extra cards that don’t “fit” might be background for your introduction paragraph (put them in a separate pile) Move the main information from the cards onto your outline and reorganize your cards into one pile again
