3 Communication What makes for effective communication? In person?
At a distance? What resources and tools would you need in order to do your prep work from home? This is where we usually have a conversation about how our students, and our colleagues, tend to expect instant access to information online, and fairly quick access to colleagues/peers via or text. But, when it comes to school work, often students don’t have the access they have come to expect elsewhere. A good learning management system will solve that disparity.

4 Communication Posting class information online helps students and parents know what’s going on. Adjust the available tools for communication to reflect those available from your school or district.

5 Our Learning Management System
Edit this slide to give your teachers an overview of the LMS they will be using, and its key features.

6 Our LMS Customize this slide to include screenshots of the LMS teachers are using.

7 Plug In Explore your Learning Management System
Create a class and review how you will add your students to it. Add at least one resource to your class: a document, announcement, or syllabus. Join a teachers-only group within the LMS Plug in challenges are small tasks teachers can usually accomplish quickly, in the workshop, to get more familiar with the tools. These are suggestions, but you can change and adapt them to work for your staff.

8 Workflow Workflow refers to the process of moving digital content between teachers and students. It’s important to find a workflow that works well for you and your students.

9 We like to note that our workflow will essentially stay the same, but that the tools we use to make each piece happen will shift from graphic organizers and copy machines to google docs and our LMS.

10 Workflow

11 Sample Workflow via LMS
Teacher creates a document. Shares the “view only” link with students via LMS. Students make their own copy, do the project and share their work back to the teacher or submit via LMS. Link on LMS

12 Sample Workflow Via Drive
Teacher creates a document and uses Doctopus to make copies for students. Students do the project. Teacher already has access. Doctopus Tutorial Doctopus sends docs to students If you are teaching at a GAFE school, you will have access to Google Classroom in the fall, which may make this slide obsolete.

13 Sample Workflow via Google Forms
Teacher sends students a document to read and a link to a form to fill out. Students complete the form Teacher views responses on the spreadsheet. Links on LMS

14 Classroom Example Here’s an example of a student doing a SOAPSTone protocol about an article his class had been reading.

15 Power Up Create and share a document or a form with your students.
Add key content to your course in the LMS Set up a shared folder with your colleagues to share the digital content you create Learn to scan documents to PDF using a scanner or copy machine. Suggested challenges that you can adapt to the specifics of your situation.
