Workshop Vision Chapter Presidents and Vice Presidents this is your time. Set the standard for your chapter. Work with your fellow Presidents and VPs to identify your chapters greatest needs, set goals, and create a strategic vision. By end of this workshop, you’ll assemble your chapter’s Strategic Communications Plan a) To ensure that the CEB members know and follows their tasks b) To communicate to Alumni and and industry personal whose assistance you seek c) To make GroupMe, and other programs, actually work to your advantage

Step 1: Identify what works for your chapter Step 2: Formulate a plan of action Step 3: Plan of implementation Step 4: Follow Through Goals Use all platforms to better communicate with all stakeholders Understand what works for your chapter

Ineffective Communication
Interactive Discussion Before we talk about how to get it right, we must first discuss how we got it wrong Think about your communication efforts with your so far board during the summer term. What communication issues have you experienced?

Communications: NSBE as a brand
One thing to consider when intiating communication with your chapter stakeholders is that they are all consumers in some shape or fashion. Your stakeholders include Chapter members Your College of Engineering Your Alumni/Professionals Yes, even your Board! The list goes on

Define Your Product Lay out vision and goals to your stakeholders.
What are your chapter specific benefits to being a NSBE Affiliate at any level? Reduced Conference Fees? Travel Reimbursements? Professional Development? You know better than I Do

The Sale Your Board, Professionals, Members, You name it!

Chapter Executive Board
Vary your strategies Don’t rely solely on one communication form research which resources work best for specific tasks Know your personnel Learn what method of communication works best for each member, and follow up with them once communication has begun. Make sure they are well aware of your expectations. They should know the benefits leadership and the privilege it is to be a part of your chapter’s board Make sure they know the consequences of not upholding a standard of excellency.

Members Know your customer
Be open and accessible to membership, and ASK them what they want or expect from the org if you have to, help them to find the answer to this Build Professional relationships Explore your options of communication Keep them up to date and involved Execute!

Alumni/Profssionals Know your Customer
They are grown adults(Employed). You must message them in a timely manner. scheduling (plan ahead) keeping it professional; clear details work around them

Membership Zone You can think of us as your outside consultants
We are here to help you with anything in regards to membership and we try to uphold a high standard of availability and transparency Understand our chain of command Contact accordingly Remember that we are also students just like you

Effective use of programs GroupMe: What do you need/want from members (like my message) Follow up on GroupMe ( ) Set a culture of excellence that ensure that your messages are more than just another Notification

Step 4: Follow Through Action items easy to find, accessible, trackable holding yourself accountable Hold them accountable with every action item make sure you convey its significance to the chapter and to your vision for the chapter. Action items should flow out of discussion Give praise and show humility
