1 Of Christ’s Resurrection
The Necessity Of Christ’s Resurrection

2 “Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:1,2

3 “For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3,4

4 Background of Church in Corinth (Acts 18:1-11)

He was “buried”(4) {Matthew 27:57-61} He “rose again on the third day”(4) {Matthew 28:6} According to the “scriptures”(4) {Psalm 16:8-11}

6 “And that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve.
After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep.” 1 Corinthians 15:5,6

7 “After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles
“After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.” 1 Corinthians 15:7-9

8 “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.” 1 Corinthians 15:10,11

20 Paul’s Defense of Apostleship
Felt unworthy to be an apostle—persecuted the church—(9) Acts 26:9-11 God’s grace poured out on Paul(10) Acts 9 Whether the preaching done by Paul— or the other apostles—they had believed the testimony and evidence! (11)

21 “Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” 1 Corinthians 15:12-14

22 “Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up--if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.” 1 Corinthians 15:15,16

23 “And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” 1 Corinthians 15:17-19

24 Consequences if There is No Resurrection Then…
If Christ was resurrected—why do some preach there is NO resurrection? (12) No resurrection—Christ has NOT risen (13) Our “preaching is in vain” (14) Your “faith is also vain” (14) We are found “false witnesses” (15) Yet “in your sins” (17)

25 Consequences if There is No Resurrection Then…
If dead do not rise—no resurrection (16) “Yet in our sins” (17) Those that have “fallen asleep in Christ have perished” (18) We are of all men “most pitiable” (19)

26 “But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:20-22

27 “But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.” 1 Corinthians 15:23,24

28 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.”
“For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.” 1 Corinthians 15:25,26

29 Fact: Christ has risen from the dead (20)
Christ is the “firstfruits” (never to die again) of those who have died (20) Death came by man (21) –physical death—Romans 5:12 By “Man” (Christ) came the resurrection (21)

30 All die like Adam (22) {Hebrews 9:27}
Christ Has Risen!!! All die like Adam (22) {Hebrews 9:27} In Christ all made alive (spiritually)(22) In our “own order” Christ 1st—next those at his coming (23) –overcoming grave and death—John 5:28,29

31 Comes the end—delivers kingdom back to the Father (24)
Christ Has Risen!!! Comes the end—delivers kingdom back to the Father (24) Puts an end to all rule and authority and power (24) {Daniel 7:13,17; Matthew 28:18} All enemies must be placed under His feet (25) Last enemy—death—(26) All men will overcome death—at the end!

32 “For ‘He has put all things under His feet
“For ‘He has put all things under His feet.’ But when He says ‘all things are put under Him,’ it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted.” 1 Corinthians 15:27

33 “Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead? 1 Corinthians 15:28,29

34 “And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour
“And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? If the dead do not rise, Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!” 1 Corinthians 15:30-32

35 “Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits."
Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame!” 1 Corinthians 15:33,34

36 God over Son, Son over men(27) {1 Corinthians 11:3; John 14:6}
Christ Has Risen!!! God over Son, Son over men(27) {1 Corinthians 11:3; John 14:6} At the end Christ will be made subject again to the Father (28) {Philippians 3:21} If no resurrection—baptism is vain!(29) Men would still be in jeopardy!—(30) If dead do not rise—”eat drink and be merry tomorrow we die” (33)

37 Do not be deceived—”evil company corrupts good habits”(33)
Christ Has Risen!!! Do not be deceived—”evil company corrupts good habits”(33) Wake to righteousness—the truth (34) Sin to deny the resurrection!!(34) Some have improper knowledge—to their shame!!—(34) Hosea 4:6 1 Peter 3:15 Romans 13:11

38 “But someone will say, ‘How are the dead raised up
“But someone will say, ‘How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?’ Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain--perhaps wheat or some other grain!” 1 Corinthians 15:35-37

39 “But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body
“But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body. All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another!” 1 Corinthians 15:38-40

40 “There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.” 1 Corinthians 15:41-43

41 “It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body
“It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, ‘ The first man Adam became a living being. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.’ However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.” 1 Corinthians 15:44-46

42 We OverCome the Grave & Death!
How are the dead raised—in what body?(35) Foolish—what is sown is not made alive unless it dies (36) Illustration of seed sown in the soil (36-38) God gives it a body as He pleases— each his own body (38)

43 We OverCome the Grave & Death!
All flesh is not the same flesh (39) Flesh of men Flesh of animals Flesh of birds Flesh of fish Celestial bodies, terrestrial bodies(40) Illustration of seed sown in the soil (36-38) God gives it a body as He pleases— each his own body (38)

44 We OverCome the Grave & Death!
Verse 38—Our current body is as a seed sown in the ground. God is the One who raises the dead – if He can create the entire universe with a word – certainly He can raise the dead and equip the resurrected body to meet His desire! God has His order of things – in the realm of agriculture it is consistent with His order – We will be have a body suited to our needs according to His designed order.

45 We OverCome the Grave & Death!
Verse 40—Another illustration. The "celestial bodies" apparently are those mentioned in the next verse, i.e. the sun, moon and the stars each having its own glory. The "terrestrial bodies” are any bodies found upon the earth, including man and the animals, those bodies mentioned in the previous verses.

46 A Glorious Body—Our Final Victory The Resurrection Body?—(15:35-49)
Verse 42 - So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. Verse 43 - It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. Verse 44 - It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 1 Corinthians 15:41 “There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory.” A Glorious Body—Our Final Victory The Resurrection Body? -(15:35-49) (1) Verse 42 - So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. (2) Verse 43 - It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. (3) Verse 44 - It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

47 We OverCome the Grave & Death!
First man (Adam) was a living being(45) Last “Adam” became a life giving spirit (45) The natural was first—then comes the spiritual (46) Physical body must die—to gain the spiritual body!

48 “The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.” 1 Corinthians 15:47-49

49 We OverCome the Grave & Death!
First man (Adam) was from earth— made of dust (47) {Genesis 2:7} Second “Man” is the Lord from heaven (47) Born the image of the dust—must also bear the image of the heavenly (48,49) Physical body must die—to gain the spiritual body!

50 “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.” 1 Corinthians 15:50,51

51 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must
“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:52,53

52 O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?”
“So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:54,55

53 “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law
“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 15:56-58

54 Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven (50)
The Change! Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven (50) Corruption cannot inherit incorruption (50) Not all sleep—but all changed(51,52) Dead—will be changed Alive- changed in twinkling of eye Dead raised incorruptible All others changed!

55 Corruption—incorruption— mortality—immortality (53)
The Change! Corruption—incorruption— mortality—immortality (53) Death swallowed up in victory! (54) Sting of death removed—Hades no victory (55,56) Victory made possible through Jesus Christ (57) Must remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work (58)

56 A Glorious Body—Our Final Victory Our Victory in Christ!!! (15:54-58)
Paul concluding admonition… Fact: there is a resurrection— our hope for eternal life is real! “Steadfast”—firm “Unmovable”—to put to flight “Abounding in the work of the Lord”—do as much as we can and have opportunity to do. “Labor not in vain”—will result with a home in heaven! 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” A Glorious Body—Our Final Victory Victory in Christ!! -(15:54-58) (1) Paul concluding admonition… (2) Facts there is a resurrection—our hope for eternal life is real! (3) “Steadfast”—firm (4) “Unmovable”—to put to flight” (5) “Abounding in the word of the Lord”—do as much as we can and have opportunity to do.
