Even though TV was invented in the 1920s, most Americans did not have a television set until the late 1950s. Before then, families gathered around their radio sets to listen to their favorite programs.

Dialogue- the words spoken by the actors
Stage Directions- instructions to actors about how dialogue should be spoken and instructions to the crew for sound effects
Music and Sound Effects- these set the mood and bring the audience into the play. Since we cannot see the characters, these elements are especially important!
Radio plays fit the genre of drama. They are meant to be performed!

3. Foreshadowing
Foreshadowing is when a writer provides hints that suggest future events in the story
For example, if a character says, “Whatever you do, don’t open that door,” we might suspect that the door will eventually be opened to create a dramatic effect
Anticipating an event can add to the story’s suspense, which makes readers more excited to find out what will happen. f
