6 Target Audience & Objectives
This activity is intended for clinicians engaged in primary care or in the treatment and care of patients with HIV. Persons living with or interested in HIV are also welcome. Educational Objectives After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to: Initiate antiretroviral treatment for HIV at the first visit following a positive HIV antibody test, and discuss the rationale of early treatment for patient care and public health. Initiate pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV, for appropriate patients at risk, in accordance with CDC guidelines. Discuss with patients common sexually transmitted infections that may occur in patients at risk, and the advantages of condom use in conjunction with PrEP.
