5 2015 Survey Results & Treatment
From PLM Lake & Land Management Corp: Bear Lake typically grows EWM later into the year but so far the treatments have been effective. We did (3) EWM treatments totally about 7.2 acres & a small phragmite treatment last September including the mouth of Eleanor Bay. Treatments have been effective and overall the population of milfoil is under control and very small in the lake.

6 Zebra Mussels Update US EPA Approved to Use Zequanox® in open waters
Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Approval Pending Outcome of Final Review Zequanox is the only aquatic ecosystem compatible, bacteria based molluscicide in existence to combat infestations of invasive zebra and quagga mussels in lakes, rivers, and other open bodies of water. The product developed works but is cost prohibitive at the time. It is our hope that they will get the cost down soon; but there hasn’t been any change in this in the last year or so.

7 Au Sable Institute Test Results
Samples included Temperature and Dissolved Oxygen, Light, Secchi Disk Transparency , Hardness and Alkalinity, pH, Conductivity, Redox and Total Dissolved Solids, Plankton, Benthos, Bacteria, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, Conclusion: “Because this is only the second year the Au Sable limnology class has sampled Bear Lake, there is not enough data to conclude any definitive results. That being said, the trends that were noticed for Bear Lake through our two years of sampling, however slight they may be, do appear to be heading in the desired direction for an oligotrophic environment.” In Addition: “This infers that the efforts of the Bear Lake residents have been effective and the continuation of such efforts are encourage. … as well as congratulate the residents for their caring attitude and devotion towards the preservation of their lake “

8 CLMP Lake Quality Readings
Bear Lake is classified as oligotrophic (clear & healthy) because it consistently has TSI values under 38 in the following criteria: Transparency (a short distance of visibility means that there are suspended particles or algae cells in the water, an indication of nutrient enrichment) at TSI values of are among the best of all lakes in program. Phosphorus (the most important nutrient affecting lake productivity) at TSI values are near the best. Chlorophyll-a (a component of the cells of most plants and can be used to measure the concentration of small plants in the water) at TSI values are near the best All readings have maintained their levels for the last 10 years. Your support and care for the lake is working.
