Part I: VOCABULARY

2 Culture: A person or societies language, clothing, religion and art make up their culture

3 Civilization: an advanced state of human society, in which a high level of culture, science, industry, and government has been reached.

4 Adapt(ed): to adjust oneself to different conditions or an environment

5 Mercantilism: An economic system where the “mother country” benefits from setting up colonies and trade around the world

6 Conflict: a fight, battle, or struggle usually between two or more groups

7 Guerilla tactics: A surprise or unexpected attack, ie. hiding behind trees/rocks, hit-and-run fighting

8 Smuggling: to import or export (goods) secretly, in violation of the law, especially without payment of legal tax.

9 Independence: freedom from the control, or influence of others (king)

10 Militia: An army made up of everyday citizens, not soldiers, who are called to fight at any time.

11 Consent: permission, approval, or agreement;

12 Abolish(ed): to do away with; put an end to; annul; make void: to abolish slavery.

13 Unconstitutional: Not constitutional or fair; unauthorized by or inconsistent with the constitution, as of a country.

14 Delegate: a person designated to act for or represent another or others; deputy; representative, as in a political convention.

15 Compromise: When two sides give in a little to come to an agreement that both sides like

16 Dispute: to engage in argument or debate.

17 Import: Goods that are brought IN to a country

18 Export: Goods that are taken or sent OUT of a country

19 Neutral: To not take a side during a conflict; to be “ in the middle” neutral

20 Impressment: the act of forcing people or property into public service or use.

21 Suffrage: The right to vote

22 Amendment: A change or addition to the Constitution

23 Temperance: To stop the consumption of alcohol

24 Propaganda Exaggerated information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement , etc.
