What is Geometry? When do you use it in the Real world?

ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY In analytic geometry, also known as coordinate geometry, we think about geometric objects on the coordinate plane. For example, we can see that opposite sides of a parallelogram are parallel by writing a linear equation for each side and seeing that the slopes are the same.

PROJECTIVE GEOMETRY
6
RELATIVITY Relativity is the word for how things only have importance in relation to other things. In physics, relativity refers to Einstein's theory that time and space are not absolute.
7
RELATIVITY If you believe there are absolute, correct answers to everything, you probably don't like relativity, which is the opposite of absolutism. According to relativity, things aren't good or bad in themselves; they only have significance in relation to other things. In physics, relativity is about how even time and space aren't absolute, objective facts. For example, time partially depends on our perceptions of it: time is relative.
8
STRING THEORY At its most basic level, string theory, also known as the ‘theory of everything,’ proposes that all objects in our universe are composed of vibrating filaments (strings) and membranes of energy.
9
Read the 1st paragraph Who is credited with turning geometry into an axiomatic form? When did this happen? What did Rene Descartes create that is one of the driving forces in geometry? When do we use it in math?
10
Read the second paragraph.
What is the most basic form of geometry? Explain what this means.
11
Read the 3rd paragraph Give an example of how you use AREA in your life.
12
Reread the fourth paragraph.
How is geometry used in GEOMETRIC IMAGING?
13
Class Discussion What surprised you about this article?
Did you think the study of geometry would have so many applications in our life?
14
Reflection Name a career that you may be interested in that uses geometry. How do you use geometry in this career?
15
Performance Task Pick a career that you are interested in and make a brochure to advertise your career at a job fair.
