2 Passive Versus Active In almost every genre of writing, except for the sciences, active voice is preferred. Active Voice: The subject of the sentence performs the verb in the sentence. Meaning is often clearer. Passive Voice Sounds more objective. The performer of the sentence’s action is at the end of the sentence or omitted.
