Percent Yield A batting average is a measure of how often a batter gets a hit as a percentage of how many times he tries. In chemistry, the percent yield of a reaction is the amount of product made as a percentage of how much was attempted to be made. Print 1-3,5-7
2
12.3 percent yield: the efficiency of a reaction, or amount of product recovered as a percent of product intended. A batting average is actually a percent yield. A batting average is actually a percent yield.
3
the amount of product actually formed in the laboratory.
12.3 theoretical yield: the maximum amount of product that could be formed from given amounts of reactants. (calculated yield) actual yield: the amount of product actually formed in the laboratory.

13.1 g CaO 13.9 g CaO x 100% = 94.2 % theoretical yield 13.9 g CaO
12.10 1 mol CaCO3 g CaCO3 1 mol CaO 1 mol CaCO3 56.08 g CaO 1 mol CaO 24.8 g CaCO3 x x x theoretical yield = 13.9 g CaO 13.1 g CaO 13.9 g CaO x 100% = 94.2 %

WHY? % yield is usually LESS than 100%
12.10 13.1 g CaO 13.9 g CaO x 100% = 94.2 % % yield is usually LESS than 100% WHY? Could it ever be MORE than 100%?

Quick Quiz. 2. Octane is burned in following equation: 2 C8H O2 16 CO H2O What is the percent yield if 14.6 g of CO2 are recovered when 5.00 g of C8H18 are combusted? 106% 94.8% 34.2% 62.5%
