FRESCA Facility for the REception of Superconducting CAbles
Main characteristics: Background field of T Temperature of K and K Sample current using an external current source (up to 32 kA), or using a superconducting current transformer (up to kA) Large test volume of about 800 mm x 70 mm, with uniform field Main measurements: Critical current measurements, based on Voltage-Current measurement at constant field and temperature. Critical current measurements, based on Voltage-Field measurement at constant current and temperature. Measurement of the critical current as a function of the current ramp rate. RRR measurement, with or without applied field. Measurement of splice/joint resistances with an accuracy of about 0.1 nW Measurements of the Minimum Quench Energy (using small spot heaters). Measurement of the Quench Energy Margin. Measurement of the quench propogation velocity. Measurement of the distribution of the transport current among the strands, based on self-field measurement along the cable using a series of Hall Probes.
