The most renowned grammar-based approaches are grammar-translation and audiolingual method The communicative approaches believe that a language should learned not via mechanical presentation of grammar rules

Why do some researchers think the learning of a language should be focused on grammar teaching? Because it does not result in fluency The communicative grammar theory of Hymes (1972) has been very influential in the development of communicative language teaching

The communicative competence
Is the knowledge the user of a language has about, grammar, syntax, morphology, phonology as well as knowledge of society. He/she should know how and when is going to use utterances properly.

Approaches focused on meaning have also been found innefective
Researchers have come up with the idea of including both: form and meaning in language teaching Include different kind of activities to catch students’ attention to enhance their learning
