RAS Activate the Basal Ganglia: connect the new to the known. Ask about participants’ previous knowledge with the topic. Basal Ganglia Entice the Prefrontal Cortex with ANK (the Absolutely Need to Know). Respect working memory (4 plus or minus 1) chunks. Don’t get the Amygdala going (emotional high jacking). Engage the pleasure centers; have fun! Practice, practice, practice! Allow time for the hippocampus to consolidate memory. 1
